How to Keep Your Awning Fabric Clean

If you have an awning on your home, you probably love the look that it gives your home and the shade that it provides. One concern that you might have, though, is about how you’re going to keep it nice and clean. Keeping awning fabric clean does require a little bit of work, but it’s easier than you might think when you follow these tips.

Brush it Off Regularly

For one thing, if you’d like to keep your awning nice and clean, it’s a good idea to clean it regularly. The more frequently that you clean it, the neater it will be overall. Plus, when you end up doing a deep cleaning of your awning, it will be a lot easier if you’ve kept it clean. Therefore, just use a dirt brush to to brush off any loose dirt when you see it.

Rinse it Off

Even though using a dirt brush from time to time will help you get rid of loose dirt, there will be times when your awning needs a deep cleaning. When it’s time to do that, you’ll need to take your awning down. Then, after brushing off as much loose dirt as you can, you can spray it off with a water hose to get it nice and wet. This might get rid of some of the dirt and bird droppings, too.

Use a Gentle Cleaner

After your awning is nice and wet, you can then begin to clean it with a gentle cleaner. If you read the information from the manufacturer that made your awning, you can find out if there are suggested cleaning products that you are supposed to use. If not, then using a simple mixture of a little bit of gentle dish soap with lots of water should be just fine. You can use a scrub brush to scrub your awning with this cleaner, focusing extra attention on any dirty or stained areas. If your awning is really dirty, you may need to wash it more than once.

Rinse it Off

After you have finished washing your awning, you’ll need to rinse it thoroughly to get rid of any dirt and soap. This can be done with your water hose.

Let it Dry

Once your awning has been thoroughly cleaned and then rinsed, you will need to allow it to dry. Simply set it out in the sun so that it can dry; on a nice, sunny day, this should happen in a few hours. You can then hang your awning back up and enjoy its newly clean look.

Awnings are definitely beneficial for homeowners, but they do require some care. Luckily, the care is not too difficult. The steps above should help you keep your home awnings nice and clean.
